Travelling to Ally Pally for the Red Bull Soapbox Race on June 22nd was an unforgettable experience. Equipped with my Contax RX and a roll of Portra 800, I aimed to capture the vibrant atmosphere and thrilling crashes as 59 teams raced to see who could make it down the fastest. It was my first time attending a Red Bull Soapbox Race, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the fantastic weather and lively crowd made it a weekend I’ll always remember.
Shooting Portra 800 (shot @500 iso) at a racing event during the day was a great idea because its high ISO rating allowed me to capture fast-moving subjects with ease, ensuring sharp and detailed images. Despite the bright daylight, Portra 800's excellent exposure latitude and colour rendition provided vibrant, true-to-life colours and rich detail in both shadows and highlights. This made it perfect for capturing the event's dynamic action and lively atmosphere, without worrying about motion blur or underexposure.
